Watering the Artistic Soul

Perusing one of my most favorite magazines this morning on the train ride to the City (Somerset Life, which is a publication full of the juiciest, most lovely, warming articles and photos you will ever see), I ran across the most wonderful statement in the opening article, written by  Corey Amaro, and I just had to share it with you.

“Wherever you are, the artist within you can bloom.  You do not need to go to another country, or travel to a new city, or take another art class… nor do you need to buy another “How to be an Artist” book.  The artist within you is already born and waiting to splash its color upon your life.  Being an artist is about the desire to create, the desire to see beauty, the desire to feel the color and live through one’s senses.”

What a beautiful paragraph.  Take it to heart, for even if we consider ourselves more “crafty” than artistic, for whatever reason… we’re all artists.  It drives me nuts when I hear people say “I am just not good at that kind of thing”… mostly because there is no good and bad in art and creativity.  There is “Oh I love that” and “Um, that’s not to my taste”… but that’s it.

Yes there are design principles to consider, boo technicalities… but why can’t we look beyond those and see the beauty of the soul that created it, learned from it, and will cherish it?  Even more importantly, why can’t we automatically always do that for ourselves?   The art is always there if you are open to look for it.   I feel pretty strongly about that.

The way I see it, we’re all still, and hopefully will forever be blooming.  Who wants to say that they are fully blossomed?!  After that… all that would be left is for your petals to wilt and your head to droop.

Have a wonderful day. ;)
