AC Bailey National Scrapbooking Day Blog Hop Stop!

Hello Scrapbookers!  Happy National Scrapbooking Day!

How cool is it that we get our own holiday – I ask you? ;)

If you are stopping by my blog on your way through AC Bailey’s NSD Blog Hop then welcome to you of course and we’ll get to the tutorial in just a sec… and if you’re just stopping by today out of habit or chance then please take a moment to go here at the AC Bailey Designs blog  to join in the fun!  There you will find our first hop post along with instructions on how you can win this beautiful ACB Goodies KOTM (kit of the month) for May.

Gorgeous!

You also have a chance to win at each blog on the hop by simply leaving a comment, so be sure to visit everyone’s links along the way.   I’m not supposed to share what the prize is yet… but I promise you’ll love it.

So without further ado, let’s get this party started!

To those who don’t know, I’ve been a DT Member of AC Bailey Designs for the past year.  It has been such a wonderful experience.  I first came across the great community there while looking for a DT opportunity, and it’s probably pretty safe to say that I’ve been spoiled by the great atmosphere there.   The community is really second to none, I have made some wonderful friends there and am always excited to welcome new ones, so stop by!

The store is also a-mazing.  After being so lucky to accompany the owner (Erica) on her CHA trip in Chicago last Summer, I can promise that she puts so much thought into what she stocks, with emphasis on the new and fun yet approachable.  The kits are also fantastic as you can see from the photo above!   My fave products she carries all the time has to be the multitude of Thickers - love those!

Now, if you’ve hopped here from the ACB Blog you should have a good idea of the rules to enter to win (if you haven’t go see!).  So here’s my little tip for your entry if you choose to give it a go.

Make your own journaling tags using scraps

We’ve all got them, scraps of beautiful paper that you just can’t stand to throw away.  Sure they are great for cards, but if you’re not really into making them (like me) the scraps just sit around gathering dust and taking up space.  I know they are good for something…. but I’ve got so much other great new stuff to play with!! ;)

So, I’ve started a collection of pre-made journaling tags.  Tags are such an excellent way to add a quick touch to a page, and while many paper sets now come with their own precut versions, there is nothing easier than just making your own.  Here’s a few tips:

- Use a journaling stamp on neutral cardstock to begin.  Then trim the cardstock down to fit the size of the stamp.

- If you don’t have journaling stamps, a pen and ruler does just fine.  Or, leave it blank!

- Use patterned paper or a different color cardstock adhered to the back.  Don’t think about matching any future layouts… just plop yourself down with some scraps in front of the TV one night and crank out 5-10 unique tags.   They will inspire you when the time comes!  (I keep my finished tags in a cute little basket on my desk).

- Use a corner rounder punch to give the tags a “finished” look.

- Don’t limit yourself to paper scraps!  Think ribbon, brads, that spare flower that’s just been hanging around your desk… add a tiny detail or embellishment to really make the tag custom to you that will add just the right touch to your next layout.

Here’s a few I made the other day….

                                                           journaling-tags

This is such the perfect way to play with paper when you are feeling creative and yet a little uninspired.  And they are so fun to look at when you store them all together. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today and I hope you get a chance to enter to win the kit above.

Don’t forget – you also have a chance to win a little something by simply leaving a comment here on this post.

Comments can be left until 12:00am EST on Sunday.

Good luck!

Now – please continue your hopping delight by heading over to the lovely Emma’s blog  at Auntie Em’s Creatables.  She has a tutorial that you don’t want to miss - and one I need!

Have a great weekend, happy happy NSD, and see you soon.

I just want to say thanks for some great ideas as I freestyle most of my layouts and use whatever papers I fancy and I needed some inspiration for individual tags instead of journalling straight onto the page.

What a great idea to use up some of those scraps. Thanks Jess!

  • What a GREAT idea! I always try to use up my scraps I have immediately after finishing a layout or project. I have just been using them to create cards, but to be honest I’m pretty sick of cards at this point and have an overflowing box of unused ones just sitting around. This has totally inspired me to do something new and dfferent with my scraps now. THANKS for the awesome idea!!!

  • What a terrific idea – premade journaling tags. I will definately do this one!

    Cheers…Tam

  • Rhonda Ulichny

Those are really cute Jess, I think journaling tags will be a help for my terrible handwriting. I especially loved the one you did with the lines made out of dots :)

  • Those are so cute, Jess! I know I’m not playing for a prize but just had to tell you anyway :) Have a great day!!!
