Searching for Treasures

I love antique stores, just love them.  Not the fancy, walk in and there’s only 10 things, and they are priced through the roof kind… but the big barn kind with vintage treasures as far as the eye can see.  I could spend hours searching through the costume jewelry, the books, odds and ends looking for inspiration and the occasional thing I just gotta have!

We stopped at one last Sunday and I became a picture taking fool.  Here are some of my favorite finds:

horse

Isn’t she beautiful?  Remember when we used to BEG to ride these dime store ponies whenever we went to the store?  At least I do.  And I could, if I was good.  I remember ours cost a penny.  I hope someone buys this and restores it.  How fun would that be to have in your playroom?!

fan

”For Church Use Only!”  We don’t want our fine shoes advertised to any non-believers!  You got that!?

brownie

This adorable punkin almost came home with me.  I mean it was in my hands.  I wandered the store for a good 20 minutes dreaming of an antique camera collection on a display shelf.  Guests oohing and ahhing at my great finds and me stating “Oh yes they really do work!  Here see these masterpieces I took?”.

But common sense prevailed that I have no empty shelf, and also no time to learn yet another camera.  (However this does go on the to do list for the future).

fruit

Jeweled fruit.  I liked it because it was shiny.

gin-score-pad

Oh la la!  Note this does not state “For Church Use Only”.

recipe-box

Cute little recipe box.  Love the colors, love the retro, love everything.

tins

Just a cute display that caught my eye.  Look at all those trash to treasure tins.  Looks like a museum.

garden

More inspiration… taking note for a future project.

biscuit

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a bunch of old biscuit tins to store scrapbooking supplies in??  Taking note of this for a future to do also.

cake-locker

I have always wanted a kitchen with a Diner type theme… wouldnt’ that be cute!  I don’t have the house for it yet but this little beauty caught my eye.  It also locks in the back, for those of us who can’t control ourselves around leftover pie.  (Just be sure whomever you give the key to is easily bribed).

And finally, my find of the day!  And the only thing that came home with me…

type-tray

A typeset tray!  Oh how excited I was when I found this.  I have wanted one for months and came close to purchasing one on Ebay… but didn’t want to pay the crazy shipping charges.  And here one was.  Right now it’s serving as storage for my wooden stamps and works wonderfully.

I hope you are having a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend.  We had a lovely meal last night at a French restaurant downtown and are still floating on cloud nine from how delicious it all was.  Today my plans are to get my scrap room back in order so I can get some creating done!  And stare at my lovely type tray. :)

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

  • You passed up a brownie my dear? You have more self control than I….

Congrats on the type tray – it’s in perfect shape. Love the old paper good finds, too. HeeHee.

Love your photos. I never thought about bringing in a camera.

I got excited when you said you purchased something. . . I thought it was the milk can. I have one of those at home, waiting. . . waiting for time and inspiration. It was my grandparents’ and I can’t bear to let it go.

Enjoy filling up your type tray.

  • What fun! Love your purchase. I really need to get back into antiquing. Although I never ever buy anything. It is fun to look though!
