I had a long hard week last week, though it wasn’t all bad… more of a roller-coaster. Saturday night, poor Alan came home from work to a couch potato who wanted to do NOTHING other than continue to watch the Law & Order SVU Marathon on TBS.
When he said, “Well honey, no wonder you’re depressed if you’ve watched this all day”… I launched into a tirade of there is just too much to do and too little time, and I was sorry but I didn’t get any laundry done, and I didn’t clean out the fridge including the week old tuna casserole, and I didn’t get anything creative done when that’s what I really wanted to do, and now I knew my weekend was almost over, and I was going to have to go see Star Trek because he had worked all day and deserved to go have fun, and all I wanted to do was just lay on the couch and be forlorn…. *sob* *whine*
Determined to wallow in my misery, I then proceeded to sabotage any possibility of having a fun Saturday night by being that wife… until we fought and didn’t speak for the rest of the night.
We didn’t go out of course, and I watched lots of SVU.
On Sunday morning, I woke up to the hum of the lawn mower outside, still in a cruddy mood. As I dragged my sullen, sorry behind into the kitchen expecting to dig into the mess that awaited, I found this note by the coffe pot:
I cleaned out the fridge,
and folded the shirts,
Washed all the dishes,
And hung all your skirts.
The laundry is done,
old tuna casserole thrown away,
Ergo, I left you
No work to do today.
All the excuses you spoke
To not do what you fancy,
Have been done by your bloke
So there’s no need to be antsy.
Relax today love
And put on your slippers,
Pull out the good paper
and your favorite clippers.
This day is all yours
With no obligation
I did all the chores
You deserve a vacation
Oh.
He then proceeded to go see Star Trek by himself and give me the afternoon to just do whatever.
(If you are gasping that I didn’t go, please have no fear – I knew this would only be his first initial journey to see it, I usually go to these kind of movies with him on round 2… don’t care for the crowds.)
But mostly I just sat around fiddling with paper wishing I had Saturday night back.
But feeling better and incredibly lucky every single minute.
Thanks for stopping by today, and have a wonderful day.

What an incredible generous thing to do. It is truly wonderful when your partner understands and simple DOES what needs to be done to make us feel better. He’s a keeper!!!! (By the way…the movie was pretty darn good). I hope you created something great that brought you joy.
